On 25 Mar 1943 Edgar was in [[Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot]]'s Returnee Section for reposting, and on 7 Apr 1943 he was transferred to the [[10th Australian Garrison Battalion]] on Rottnest. On 27 Sep 1943 he was granted Special Leave without pay, and on his return on 19 Nov 1943 it was decided to discharge him which took place on 23 Nov 1943.

Edgar enlisted at Claremont on 30 Oct 1940 and on 1 Nov 1940 he was posted to the Naval Base Training Depot where he joined the No. 3 Depot Battalion on 27 Nov 1940. On 14 Jan 1941 he was transferred to the 2nd Training Battalion at Northam. There, on 11 Feb 1941 Edgar was charged with having been AWOL from midnight 10 Feb 1941 until 10:30pm on 11 Oct 1941, He forfeited a day's pay and was awarded 4 days Confined to Barracks (CB). On 12 Feb 1941 he was posted to the 6th reinforcement draft for the 2/28th Australian Infantry Battalion. However, on 17 Apr 1941 this was changed to the 7th reinforcement draft for the 2/32nd Australian Infantry Battalion. From 21 - 23 Apr 1941 Edgar was treated by the Northam Camp Hospital for Impetigo to the face.

Then on 24 Jun 1941 he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital with Diarrhoea, remaining with them until he was released on 3 Jul 1941. On 7 Sep 1941 Edgar finally boarded the HMT Queen Mary in Fremantle bound for the Middle East. They disembarked in Port Tewfik on 23 Sep 1941 and Edgar was allocated to the 24th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 15 Nov 1941. On 30 Dec 1941 Edgar joined the 2/32nd Australian Infantry Battalion.
