Pre War

During 1933 Frank had married Doris Bessie May Curtis locally. Doris died in Bentley on 14 May 1989 aged 78.

War Service

Frank enlisted in the CMF on 12 Mar 1942 and was called up for full time duty on 23 Mar 1942 when he was posted to the 7th Bomb Disposal Company at Ascot (WA). From 30 March until 26 May he attended the Engineers Training Depot at Northam camp. On his return to his unit he was classified as Trade Group II Carpenter. On 27 Aug 1942 he enlisted in the 2nd AIF with Army Number WX31710. Frank was appointed as a Lance Corporal on 2 Oct 1942. On 24 Feb 1943 Frank transferred to the 7th Australian Army Troops Company, and the same day he was detached to the 9th Australian Bomb Disposal Section of the 1st Australian Bomb Disposal Company until 1 Mar 1943. The same day he was detached to the 109th Australian Light Anti Aircraft Regiment until 15 Apr 1943 when he again returned to his unit.


On 6 Jul 1943 Frank entrained at Midland Junction for Adelaide, enroute to the Northern Territory where he arrived on 12 Jul 1943. On 23 Oct 1943 he was attached to the 63rd Australian DCRE (Works) until 29 Dec 1943. He remained in the Northern Territory until 17 Nov 1944 when he was transferred with his unit to New South Wales where they prepared for service in the islands. On 22 Apr 1945 Frank embarked in Brisbane aboard HMT Taroona for Torokina on Bougainville, where he disembarked on 28 Apr 1945. Frank was promoted Acting Corporal on 23 May 1945 and he finally left the 7th Australian Army Troops Company on 11 Oct 1945 to join the 7th Australian Field Company. With them for only two weeks, on 23 Oct 1945 he transferred to the 15th Australian Field Company. On 11 Dec 1945 at Torokina, Frank boarded HMT Katoomba for Townsville where disembarkation took place on 16 Dec 1945. On 19 Dec 1945 Frank left for Western Australia where on 16 Jan 1946 he was discharged by the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot
