Brief History
In March 1942 the unit was formed at Guildford with three Bomb Disposal Sections - the 17th, 18th and 19th. In July 1942 there was a general restructure of Bomb Disposal units and the unit became known as 3rd Bomb Disposal Company. In October they moved to Mullewa to prepare camps for the troops arriving from Victoria, before moving back to Perth in November with 17th Section at Fremantle and 18th Section at Mingenew. In December they concentrated at Karrakatta before another restructure in February 1943.
The outcome of the restructure was a much smaller unit named 9th Australian Bomb Disposal Section (1st Australian Bomb Disposal Company), but in October 1943 it was renamed again, to 9th Australian Bomb Disposal Platoon', which had detachments at Port Hedland and Broome. In November the unit moved to Port Hedland where they undertook training and construction tasks before returning to Karrakatta in May 1944. The unit was disbanded in August 1944.
