War Service

Griffith was mobilised into the CMF on 30 Jul 1941 and was posted to the 122nd Reserve Motor Transport Company. Griffith was posted to Rottnest on 20 Aug 1941 before returning to the 122nd Reserve Motor Transport Company on 3 Oct 1941. On 25 Oct 1941 Griffith was charged with Disobeying a lawful command given by a superior officer on Rottnest and was fined Ten shillings, or 2 days pay.

Griffith returned to the mainland on 20 Dec 1941 and on 26 Jan 1942 he was transferred to the Melville camp until 29 Jan 1942 before his next posting to the 55th Australian Anti Aircraft Company RAE at Buckland Hill. Again this posting was for only a fw days, and he continued to be lent to units on a short term basis until 15 Aug 1942 when he was transferred to the 124th Australian General Transport Company at Karrakatta and was redefined as a TG2 instead of TG3 Driver Mechanic. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 3 Feb 1943 before enjoying a period of leave.

On 19 Apr 1943 Griff was admitted to the 75th Australian Camp Hospital before being released to his unit on 23 Apr 1943. On 11 Oct 1943 Griffith was sent on an Advanced Refresher Course at Graylands whcih was completed on 4 Dec 1943. on 9 Dec 1943 he was charged with Condust to the prejudice of good order and military discipline as he had been seen in Murray street Perth on 6 Dec 1943 wearing his hat turned up and not wearing his web waist belt. He was awarded 7 days Confined to Barracks. On 14 Jan 1944 he was a TG1 Fitter Motor Vehicle.

On 8 Feb 1944 Griffith was transferred to the 4th Australian Ambulance Car Company, but on 17 Feb 1944 he was sent for reassignment, and on 27 Mar 1944 he joined the Australian Docks Service Training Company in Meadowbank, New South Wales. On 5 Apr 1944 Griffith was admitted to the 103rd Australian General Hospital for treatment of Hemorrhoids before being released to duty on 30 Jun 1944. On 13 Jul 1944 Griffith was posted to the 1st Australian Port Construction Company.

The 1st Australian Port Construction Company boarded the USAT Muai in Brisbane on 26 May 1945 for Morotai where they disembarked on 5 Jun 1945. On 26 Jun 1945 they re-embarked, this time on LST 753 for Balikpapan, landing at the end of the month. On 18 Aug 1945 Griffith was admitted to the 2/12th Australian General Hospital for treatment of an injured right knee, returning to his unit on 27 Aug 1945. On 15 Sep 1945 Griffith was detached to the 2/6th Field Company, and on 20 Sep 1945 with them, he embarked on HMAS Barcoo (as a member of MAKFORCE) for Makassa inthe southern Celebes. From 10 - 15 Nov 1945 Griffith was being treated by the 2/6th Australian Field Ambulancefor Gasto Enteritis. On 7 Dec 1945 Griffith was transferred to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot to prepare for his discharge which didn't take place until 8 Mar 1946.
