Pre War

On 29 Feb 1935 ALbert married Alice Pryor Thatcher in Armadale.

War Service

Albert enlisted in the RAAF on 24 Sep 1940 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, mustered as Trainee Mechanic. He was posted two days later to No. 4 School of Technical Training RAAF to undertake No. 22 Recruit Drill Course, and on completion of his course he was transferred on 17 Nov 1940 to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF at Ascot Vale in Victoria where he trained to be a Flight Mechanic via the No. 48 Trainee Flight Mechanic Course. Training complete for the moment, he was remustered as a Flight Mechanic Trade Group II on 15 Feb 1941 and then transferred on 21 Feb 1941 to No. 1 Aircraft Depot RAAF at Laverton. Albert was remustered again on 6 Jun 1941, this time as a Fitter / Driver Motor Transport TG I.

On 20 Jul 1941 Albert transferred to No. 2 Air Navigation School RAAF at Mt Gambier, and on completion of the course he was posted on 28 Aug 1941 to No. 6 Service Flying Training School RAAF at Mallala in South Australia. Albert was appointed Leading Aircraftman on 1 Mar 1942, and then on 1 Aug 1942 he was promoted Temporary Corporal. On 7 Sep 1942 Albert was posted to No. 70 Reserve Squadron RAAF. He was reposted on 29 Dec 1942 to theWorks Training Unit RAAF at Ascot Vale, and between 1 and 22 Jan 1943 he undertook a Diesel Tractor Driver's Course. On 13 Mar 1943 Albert was posted to the No. 11 Works Supply Unit RAAF where soon after on 1 Apr 1943 he was promoted Temporary Sergeant.

Between 9 and 15 Mar 1943 he was admitted to No. 2 RAAF Hospital. On 2 Sep 1944 Albert was poasted to No. 1 Airfield Construction Squadron RAAF, On 30 Sep 1944 Albert was posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF for reposting. On 29 Dec 1944 Albert was transferred to No. 5 Central Recovery Depot RAAF until 3 Feb 1945 when he was again posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF, this time to their Discharge Section. On 9 Feb 1945 Albert was discharged from the RAAF to resume civil work on "Wattle Tree Farm" in Byford. Total service was for 4 years, 140 days.
