Although Ray's RAAF enlistment papers mention that he had served with the Army Service Corp's A Section AASC Supply Column with Army No. W32924 for 3 months immediately prior to enlisting in the RAAF, no record can yet be found of it. On 7 Aug 1941 Ray enlisted in the RAAF and was sent to [[No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF]] Pearce.
