Pre War
On entry to the RAAF his occupation is recorded as Junior Electrician. He had previously attended the Carmel State School from June 1936 until June 1938. Bill's father was a Ranger at the Canning Dam.
War Service
Bill enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF on 1 Aug 1942 aged 18, and was mustered as a Trainee Electrician. On 1 Nov 1942 having completed his entry drill training he was posted to the No. 4 School of Technical Training RAAF in Adelaide. On 14 Jan 1943 he was transferred again, this time to No. 3 School of Technical Training RAAF at Ultimo in Sydney to undergo a course for Wireless Assistants. With training behind him, he was remustered on 7 Aug 1943 as a Wireless assistant, and posted on 9 Sep 1943 to No. 1 Aircraft Depot RAAF in Laverton, Victoria. While there (16 to 29 Sep 1943) he was admitted to the No. 2 RAAF Hospital with an unknown infection.
On 3 Jan 1944 Bill was posted to No. 1 School of Technical Training RAAF in Melbourne where three days later he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman. Bill's next posting was on 20 Jun 1944 to No. 4 Aircraft Depot RAAF in Boulder, Western Australia. On 1 Jun 1945 Bill was reposted to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Busselton where on 27 Jun 1945 he was charged with having been AWOL from 12:30am until 3:00am, and for having left the confines of his unit by means other than the main guard room entrance contrary to Unit Standing Orders. He was fined 7 days pay. On 20 Jul 1945 he was reposted, this time to No. 71 Operational Base Unit RAAF at Carnarvon.
Bill volunteered to serve in the Interim Force for two years from 28 Feb 1946, however, he did not complete that term. He was detached to No. 76 Operational Base Unit RAAF at Exmouth Gulf from 30 Jan 1946 until 2 May 1946 when he was sent to Perth to join the No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF who would process his discharge. Bill was discharged from the RAAF on 21 May 1946 with 59 days pay in lieu of his leave credits.
Post War
During 1948 Bill married Pauline Weger in Perth.
