Pre War

Had passed both the Junior and Senior School examinations.

War Service

George enlisted in the AIF on 13 Oct 1942 as a Trooper with the 25th Australian Cavalry Regiment. His RAAF records speak of him being a member of the unit from December 1941 to December 1942 (Militia ?). George was discharged from the Army on 2 Dec 1942 to allow him to join the RAAF the same day at No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF. As an Aircraftman Level 2, he mustered as Air Crew V (Guard) and was held at No. 4 Recruit Depot until 2 Jan 1943 when he was posted to No. 6 Replenishing Centre. On 8 Mar 1943 George arrived at No. 4 Initial Training School RAAF at Victor Harbour in South Australia. On 19 Apr 1943 George was remustered as Air Crew V (Pilot) and on 22 May 1943 promoted Leading Aircraftman, and remustered as Air Crew II (Pilot).


On 26 May 1943 George was posted to No. 9 Elementary Flight Training School RAAF at Cunderdin where he logged 58 hours in a De Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth before moving on to No. 4 SSTS at Geraldton on 3 Aug 1943. On 18 Nov 1943 he was promoted Temporary Sergeant and remustered as an Airman Pilot at No. 4 SFTS before moving on the next day to No. 5 Embarkation Depot RAAF and then on 12 Dec 1943 to No. 2 Embarkation Depot RAAF in Sydney. On 26 Jan 1944 George embarked in Sydney and is likely to have travelled by troops ship to San Francisco where on disembarkation they travelled to New York on the east coast, and then by ship to the west coast of the UK. He disembarked in the UK on 12 Mar 1944 and was sent to join No. 11 Personnel Despatch & Receiving Centre RAAF at Brighton. On 18 May 1944 while still there he was promoted Temporary Flight Sergeant. On 10 Aug 1944 George was posed to No. 1 PDC at West Kirby 20 Aug 1944 George embarked in the UK for Egypt, disembarking there on 8 Sep 1944 to join the No. 156 ATC for three days before joining No. 1 (Middle East) ARC. 21 Oct 1944 at RAF Qastina for three days, and on 27 Oct 1944 he was posted to RAF Station Shandur 62 Hours flying time in a Martin Baltimore while posted to No. 70 OTU in Egypt 14 Jan 1945 with No. 2 PTC and on 25 Jan 1945 with No. 56 PTC 30 Jan 1945 posted to No. 454 Squadron which was active in the Italian Campaign. During his time with them George flew on 20 sorties over 36 hours and another 89 hours non operational flying. 18 May 1945 promoted Temporary Warrant Officer at No. 454 Squadron. 13 Aug 1945 granted a Commission as Pilot Officer, and the next day he was posted to No. 54 PTC. On 27 Aug 1945 to No. 22 PTC 29 Oct 1945 at No. 5 PD

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 at William street, Armadale, bank clerk; 1954 at 26 Darlot crescent, South Perth, bank officer; at 1958 at Telluride street, Greenbushes, bank officer; 1963 - 1980 at 141 Moreing road, Attadale; bank manager.

During 1950 he had married Lorel Thorley X (1928 - 2015). They had four children.
