Pre War

On enlistment in the RAAF, Stewart declared that he had previously served in the RANR (Navy Reserve) for six months

War Service

On 9 Oct 1942, 18 year old Stewart enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, and he was mustered as a General Hand V. Later that day he was sent to the No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF to undertake some basic drill training before being posted on 1 Jan 1943 to No. 10 Stores Depot RAAF in Maylands. Stewart's next posting took place on 11 May 1943 when he joined No. 85 Squadron RAAF.


Stewart was transferred on 24 Dec 1943 to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF, with an attachment to HQ WA from 9 Mar to 5 Apr 1944 until 13 May 1944 when he was transferred to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF. On 14 Aug 1944 this changed to No. 6 Service Flying Training School RAAF and on 24 Mar 1945 embarking in Perth for Melbourne wher he arrived on 28 Mar 1945 to join No. 1 Personnel Depot RAAF. On 25 Apr 1945 he embarked in Melbourne for the UK. It appears that he was sent to the Middle East, with his records reord him disembarking in Egypt on 15 May 1945 and later returning to Australia from Alexandria, disembarking on 6 Jul 1945.

Post War

On 5 Apr 1947 Stuart married Ada Clayton in Perth. They had one child

Notes

In his RAAF records his name is spelt Stewart, but in some other official records it is Stuart Chandler Mack.
