Pre WW1
Sidney had served in the British Territorial Army for 3½ years prior to his emigration to Australia.
WW 1 Service
Sidney had enlisted on 18 Jan 1915 with Army number 1752 and he served in 'D' Company of the 12th Battalion AIF on Gallipoli before being WIA in the head. Transferred to the 52nd Battalion in March 1916 and then to the 13th Light Trench Mortars in Jul 1916. Wounded again on 27 Nov 1916, and for a third time on 12 Oct 1917 befoe seeing out the war with his unit and returning to Australia on 2 Apr 1919.
Between the Wars
Sidney had married Louisa Margaret Paull in West Milton, Dorset on 8 Jan 1917. Louisa died on 30 Apr 1969 aged 79.
WW 2 Service
Sidney was Mobilised on 30 Sep 1940 and then called up for full time service from 30 Sep 1941. On 11 Oct 1941 he qualified at the Butcher's School and on 4 Dec 1941 he was appointed to be a Lance Sergeant. On 17 Aug 1942 Sidney was transferred to the 13th Australian Infantry Brigade Group's 24th Australian Company AASC and on 24 September he was sent back to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for re-assignment. On 28 Oct 1942 he was transferred to the WA HQ Kit Store's 6 Section.
On 18 Nov 192 Sidney was charged with having been AWOL from midnight 17 November to 5:30am the next day for which he was severely reprimanded. On 2 Jan 1943 he was promoted Acting Sergeant, and on 20 Jun 1944 he was reclassified as B2 (bunions). His rank was confirmed on 1 Oct 1944, and on 15 Oct 1945 he was transferred to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot to be discharged on 17 Oct 1945.

Buried with wife Louisa Margaret in Kelmscott Cemetery. Age at time of death differs from Military records.
