War Service

John enlisted in the CMF on 17 Feb 1942 in Southern Cross and was called up for full time service from 28 Jul 1942. On 4 Aug 1942 he was allocated to the General Reinforcements 13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion at Northam, but on 15 Aug 1942 he was transferred to the Western Command Training Depot AAMC, and on 28 Aug 1942 he was posted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital. He was a patient between 12 and 27 Nov 1942, and on 1 Feb 1943 he was reclassified as a Trade Group III Nursing Orderly.


On 7 Apr 1943 John entrained in Perth for New South Wales where on 23 Jun 1944 he was taken on strength by the 9th Australian Motor Ambulance Convoy. he was in need of medical attention for parotitis from the 3rd Australian Camp Hospital between 7 and 17 Oct 1944 after which he rejoined his unit, remaining with them until after the war concluded when on 31 Aug 1945 he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge, an event that occurred on 6 Oct 1945. His early discharge assisted by his holding a reserved occupation.

Post War

At the time of his discharge John and Ena had two children under the age of 16. Ena died on 18 May 2009, aged 94 in Rossmoyne.
