Pre War

War Service

Patricia Curtis enlisted at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 30 May 1942 and was mustered as a Trainee Radio Operator. The same day she was posted to No. 3 WAAAF Training Depot RAAF to undergoe basic drill training before being sent on 28 Jun 1942 to the No. 1 Radio School RAAF in Richmond, Victoria to participate in the No. 13 Radio Operators Course from 30 Jun to 27 Jul 1942. On 31 Jul 1942 Patricia was posted to No. 1 Radio Installation & Maintenance Unit RAAF at Croydon, in Victoria. On 4 Sep 1942 Patricia was then posted to No. 18 Radar Station RAAF at Saddle Back Mountain, Kiama, south of Sydney, and on 27 Dec 1942 to No. 19 Radar Station RAAF at Bombi, New South Wales. Patricia was promoted Acting Corporal from 11 Jan 1943 until 11 Apr 1943.

On 12 Apr 1943 Patricia was posted to Fighter Sector Headquarters RAAF, but was transferred again on 20 Jun 1943 to the No. 144 Radar Station RAAF at Subiaco where on 1 Aug 1943 she was promoted Temporary Corporal. Patricia was briefly (29 Jul to 20 Aug 1943) detached to No. 4 Transport & Movements Office RAAF and from 21 - 31 Aug 1943 to No. 5 Embarkation Depot RAAF. On 1 Apr 1944 she was promoted Temporary Sergeant. On 24 Jun 1944 Patricia was posted to No. 4 Stores Depot RAAF, returning to No. 144 Radar Station RAAF on 10 Oct 1944. She was granted leave without pay from 15 Dec 1944 until 7 Jan 1945. On 14 May 1945 Patricia was posted to Air Defence HQ Perth RAAF, remaining with them until 24 May 1945 when she was sent to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF to be discharged at her own request. Her discharge occurred on 29 May 1945.

Notes

During 1944 Patricia married Denys Brettell Duke (1907 - 1990) who served in the RAAF as a Driver during ww2.
