Pre War
On 21 Jun 1941 Keith married Pearl Amelia Bell (1917 - 2003) in Kelmscott. They had three sons and a daughter, including Kevin Murray Buckingham (1943 - 2013); and Daryl Keith Buckingham (1945- 1949).
War Service
Mobilised on 6 Mar 1941, Keith was a member of the 16th Australian Infantry Battalion (Cameron Highlanders Regiment). Between 17 Jul and 30 Sep 1941 he attended a training course, and on its conclusion he was called up for full time duty on 1 Oct 1941. On 1 Nov 1942 Keith was detached to the HQ RAE until 16 Nov 1942. On 21 Feb 1942 his unit was sent to South Australia enroute to the Northern Territory. Before they left South Australia, Keith was admitted to the 101st Australian General Hospital on 29 Mar 1943 with Pharyngitis, before a short period in a convalescent home. On his return to duty he was sent to the Northern Territory where he rejoined his unit on 29 Apr 1943.
From 24 May until 1 Jul 1943 Keith attended a Farm Unit School, and was granted proficiency pay from 1 Jul 1943. On 28 Mar 1944 he was transferred to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot in Claremont for discharge which occurred on 14 Apr 1944, classified as Essential Services.
