War Service
Harold enlisted in the CMF on 23 Jan 1941 aand was allocatd to the 7th Heavy Brigade RAA. His original assignment was to Swanbourne, but on 10 Mar 1941 he was posted to Rottnest. On 18 Aug 1941 he was classifid as a TG3 Clerk and on 14 Nov 1941 he volunteered for overseas service (joined the 2nd AIF). Harold was granted leave from 5 - 9 Jan 1942 and on 24 Mar 1942 he was promoted Bombardier (Artillery Clerk). He was also granted leave from 3 - 5 Apr 1942. During 1943 Harold married Moreen Kershaw.
On 3 Apr 1944 Harold was transferred to the 15th Australian Radio Maintenance Section, and on the same day he was promoted Acting Segeant. Harold was sent on a course conducted by the Regimental Training School at Swanbourne from 19 June until 1 Jul 1944, and on 23 Aug 1944 his rank of Sergeant was confirmed. He was transferred on 31 Oct 1944 to the 1st Australian Base Depot Personnel in Sydney and entrained in Perth on 3 Nov 1944 for Sydney.
On 23 Feb 1945 Harold was transferred to the 5th Australian Advanced Reinforcement Depot for holding as an AEME Reinforcement, and they posted him to the 134th Australian Brigade Workshop on 17 Apr 1945. On 10 May 1945 Harold was embarked in Brisbane aboard USAT Sea Ray, diembarking at Morotai on 22 May 1945. On 21 Jun 1945 he then embarked on USS LST 614 for Labuan in British North Borneo.
On 30 Dec 1945 Harold was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot and he emplaned in Labaun on 30 Dec 1945 and deplaned in Perth the following day. He was discharged on 7 Jan 1946.
