Pre War

In 1938 Edgar married Sybil May Higham (1 May 1915 - 1 Dec 2004) with whom he had 4 children, 2 female and two males. Electoral Roll entries: 1943 at Albany road, Bedfordale, farm labourer

War Service

Enlisted at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 3 Jun 1942, mustered as a Trainee Group V. On 14 Jun 1942 Edgar was sent to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF in Perth and having completed some training was posted on 8 Aug 1942 to No. 1 Armament School RAAF at Hamilton in Victoria. Soon after, on 19 Sep 1942 Edgar remustered as an Armourer Group II and was was posted to No. 7 Squadron RAAF, joining them at Nowra, New South Wales.


In October 1942 the Squadron had completed its training at Nowra and moved to Ross River near Townsville in Queensland. On 1 Jan 1943 Edgar was promoted Leading Aircraftman, and on 1 Jan 1944 he was promoted Temporary Corporal. From April until October the squadron operated from Horn Island in the Torres Straight. On 20 Dec 1944 Edgar was posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF, remaining with them until 30 Apr 1945 when he was posted to No. 1 Aircraft Depot RAAF. On 25 Apr 1945 Edgar had been remustered as an Armourer Group I, and consequentualy he reverted to Aircraftman. Edgar continued to be seen as an asset and was again promoted Leading Aircraftsman on 30 Jul 1945 while at the Aircraft Depot.


On 24 Dec 1945, Edgar was posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF to undergo discharge which took place on 10 Jan 1946.
