War Service

Edith was called up for full time service in the Australian Women's Army Service on 18 Feb 1943 and was posted to the No. 6 AWAS Barracks in Claremont for training. From 21 Feb 1943 until 14 Mar 1943 she was granted Leave without Pay (LWOP) before on 16 April when she was classified as a Driver Trade Group 2. She was granted further LWOP from 17 Apr 1943 until 21 Apr 1943, and on her return, the next day she was posted to the 4th Australian Ambulance Car Company.


On 27 May 1943 Edith was detached to the 38th Australian Camp Hospiotal at Northam, rejoining her unit on 1 Jul 1943. On 25 Aug 1943 she was again detached to the 38th Australian Camp Hospital. She was again granted LWOP, from 14 Nov 1943 until 12 Dec 1943. AEdith rejoined her parent unit on 26 Jan 1944 and the same day was detached to the 118th Australian General Hospital until 9 Feb 1945. On 22 Feb 1944 Edith was detached to the 37th Australian Camp Hospital at Melville, returning to her unit on 1 Mar 1944.
