Pre War

From 1927 until 1934 Stan attended the Holyoak State School, before attending the Perth Boys School in 1935 and 1936. In 1937 and 1938 he was a student at the City Commercial College. Prior to enlistment, Stan was working as a Works Clerk at the Byford State Brickworks. He had also been a Signaller in the VDC's Armadale Detachment.

War Service

Stan enlisted in the RAAF at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre in Perth on 6 Jul 1942 and was initially mustered as aircrew. He was sent the same day to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Pearce to undertake a Recruit Drill course which finished at Busselton on 27 Jul 1942. On 2 Aug 1942 he was posted to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF in Geraldton, before being reposted on 11 Oct 1942 to No. 5 Initial Training School RAAF at Clontarf in Perth, where he was remustered as a Motor Cyclist on 5 Jan 1943.


On 26 Jan 1943 Stan was admitted to No. 4 Embarkation Depot RAAF at Mitcham in South Australia, before being released and posted on 25 Feb 1943 to No. 55 Operational Base Unit RAAF at Birdum in the Northern Territory. Three weeks later on 14 Mar 1943 his posting changed to No. 52 Operational Base Unit RAAF which was in Darwin. On 27 Jun 1943 Stan was riding a military Indian Motor Cycle which caught fire betwee 3:30 and 4:00pm on the North-south road, approx 11 miles (19km) from Darwin.


He was transferred to the No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF in Subiaco on 19 Aug 1944 for re-assignment. On 2 Oct 1944 he was posted to No. 10 Stores Depot RAAF at Merredin, and then on 11 Jan 1945 he transferred to HQ Western Area RAAF in Perth. His final posting was to the No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF on 26 Feb 1946, and they processed his discharge on 4 Mar 1946.

Post War

Stan married Priscilla Adelaide on 18 May 1940, and they had a son Bruce Stanley born 12 Sep 1940 and a daughter Maureen Elizabeth born 1 Dec 1941.
