Brief History

The first entry in No. 52 Operational Base Unit's history was made on the morning of 2 May 1943 when 20 Japanese bombers raided the aerodrome. Little damage was done and the runway was serviceable by lunch time. On 20 June 1943 28 bombs were dropped on RAAF Base Darwin resulting inno casualties and minimal damage to buildings or the runway. Seven unexploded bombs were discovered and disarmed.

On 1 Aug 1944 the Unit was disbanded and was reformed as RAAF Station Darwin.
