War Service
On 21 Oct 1940 Garnet enlisted in the CMF and was allocated to the 55th Australian Anti Aircraft Company RAE. On 28 Feb 1941 Garnet was appointed Lance Corporal and on 26 Aug 1941 he was promoted Acting Corporal. On 4 Sep 1941 he was detached to Fortress Company Rottnest until 4 Oct 1941. Garnet was then sent on a Machine Gun School from 18 - 20 Dec 1941.
From 20 - 27 Feb 1942 Garnet received treatment in the 110th Australian Base Hospital, ailment not recorded. On 21 Jun 1942 Garnet was sent to the School of Military Engineering (Fortress) in New South Wales, returning to his unit on 29 Aug 1942. On 19 Oct 1942 he was promoted to Acting Lance Sergeant before further promotion to Acting Sergeant on 30 Nov 1942. Finally, on 23 Mar 1943 Garnet was appointed Acting Lieutenant and posted to the HQ 55th Australian Anti Aircraft Searchlight Battery. On 18 Jul 1943 the unit line of command moved from RAE to Artillery.
On 4 Dec 1943 Garnet was transferred to 66th Australian Anti Aircraft Searchlight Battery until 24 Mar 1944 when he was re-allocated to the 140th Australian Heavy Searchlight Troops. Moved again on 2 Aug 1944 to the 70th Australian Mobile Searchlight Battery. During early July 1944 Garnet had married Nancy Sampson who in November 1944 moved to Minindie in South Australia. On 6 Oct 1944 Garnet entrained for South Australia enroute to New South Wales
He was discharged on 19 Nov 1945
