War Service
Original part time mobilization was dated 23 Aug 1940. Arthur was taken on full time, and posted to Fortress Signals Fremantle from 24 Jul 1941 as a Trade Group Classified Operator Signals Grade II. On 2 Mar 1942 he was appointed Lance Corporal and on 29 Sep 1942 he was transferred to the HQ 4th Australian Infantry Division Signals Company.
On 15 Oct 1942 he was admitted to the 2/1st Australian General Hospital before being discharged to duty on 25 Nov 1942. On 2 Mar 1943 he was detached to HQ RAA 4th Division, returning to the Signals Company on 1 Apr 1943. on 27 Apr 1943 he entrained in Perth for Sydney, where on 6 May 1943 he boarded HMT Katoomba for Townsville, disembarking on 18 May. On arrival he was evacuated to the 2/14th Australian General Hospital to investigate an unknown infection. On 21 May he was placed aboard 1st Australian Ambulance Train for the 2/12th Australian General Hospital thought to have a Duodenal Ulcer. Seen on 23 May 1943 he was passed the same day to 2/4th Australian General Hospital. On 11 Jun 1943 he was transferred to the 113th Australian General Hospital, and then on 5 Jul 1943 to the 115th Australian General Hospital.
He was to spend until 17 July in their company before being released to the Caulfield outpost of the 73rd Australian Camp Hospital. However on 20 Jul 1943 until 27 Jul 1943 he was sent to the 20th Australian Camp Hospital. On 2 Aug 1943 he was reviewed by a Medical Board which resolved that he was to be discharged as medically unfit. Arthur was discharged on 3 Sep 1943.
