Pre War
15 Mar 1913 married Beatrice Ayres in Leederville; a son Lionel Chase born in Leederville ( 9 Aug 1914 - 12 Jun 2003).
War Service
Posted to the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital, on 4 Dec 1915 he boarded the HMHS Assaye for Mudros having been detached to the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital at Mudross West, before returning to Tel-el-Kebir on 3 Feb 1916.
The hospital moved from Tel-el-Kebir to Port Said on 6 Aug 1916. On 29 Mar 1917 he was made Temporary Corporal, and on 9 May to 17 May 1917 was hospitalised with the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital in El Arish. Rank was confirmed on 7 Jun 1917 and on 13 Jan 1918 he was made Temporary Sergeant.
On 23 May 1918 he was posted to 4th Light Horse Brigade Field Ambulance and on 26 Jul 1918 went to the School of Instruction where from 27 Jul - 26 Aug 1918 he attended the NCOs School, before returning briefly to the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital until 7 Sep 1918 when he was again detached to the 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance. Hospitalised with the 76th Casualty Clearing Station from 21 Sep 1918 to 18 Nov 1918, he was given an early return to Australia from Suez for family reasons. [Father had died and mother and sister living on a property in urgent need of attention.]
Harold was discharged by the 5th Military District on 13 Mar 1919.
Post War
Daughter Roma Beatrice was born 26 Jan 1920. Her married name was Jowett. Electoral Roll entries - 1915 an ironmonger cnr Tower and William streets Leederville; 1918 - 1936 farmer "The Brook" Kelmscott (Karragullen); 1937 - 1948 at 45 Venn street North Perth ironmonger; 1949 at 29 Ninth avenue Maylands, ironmonger - alone, [Beatrice having died 18 Apr 1947 aged 58]; 1958 - 1963 with Mabel Essie at 78 Holmfirth street, Mt Lawley, ironmonger; [Mabel Essie a sister (?) died 11 Jul 1967 aged 73].
Member of the Kelmscott sub-branch of the RSL in May 1922.
Served with militia during WW2 from 26 Oct 1940 until 2 Nov 1945 W31709 Corporal with the 10th Garrison Battalion.
