Pre War

War Service
Robert entered Blackboy Hill camp on 13 Mar 1916 and on 4 Apr 1916 he was allocated to the 13th reinforcement draft for the 28th Battalion, and travelled with them to England where they disembarked at Plymouth. On arrival in England he was sent to the 7th Training Battalion at Rollestone, before proceeding overseas to France from Folkestone aboard the HMT Victoria on 16 Nov 1916.
Robert entered the 2nd Division's Base Depot in Étaples, France, on 17 Nov 1916. On 4 Dec 1916, Robert reported sick, and was admitted to the 26th General Hospital where he was diagnosed as having a mildly disordered heart condition.
Consequently, on 14 Dec 1916 he was evacuated to England aboard HMHS Cambria, and on arrival he was admitted to the Norfolk War Hospital. Discharged to the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital on 20 Dec 1916. Robert was granted furlough from 15 - 30 Jan 1917 after which he reported to the No 2 Command Depot at Dartford. On 21 Feb 1917 he was transferred to the 2nd Convalescent Depot at Weymouth. On 4 May 1917, Robert began the journey back to Australia where he was discharged by the 5th Military District as medical unfit on 12 Jul 1917.
Post War
In 1922 Robert married Muriel Bennett in Perth
