Pre War
After three years training, and prior to enlistment Alice had worked as a Staff Nurse at Perth Public Hospital for 7 months, a Staff Nurse at the District Hospital Meekatharra for 6 months, and had been a private nurse for 9 months.
War Service
Appears to have acted as staff on the voyage to Port Suez. Her enlistment papers were signed in Heliopolis, Egypt after she had completed transport duties on 18 Jul 1915. After a period in Egypt she entered France on 6 Apr 1916 via Marseilles.
She served with the 1st Australian General Hospital (1AGH) until 1 Feb 1918, other than a short detachment to the Meerut (later designated No 25 British General Hospital in Dannes-Camiers.
Ill with Influenza three times in 1916, early 1917. On the third occasion she was evacuated to No 3 General Hospital Brighton in England on HMHS Aberdonian from Rouen, returning to France on 3 Mar 1917.
Went on leave to the UK on 29 Jan 1918 and remained there on completion of her leave, resigning with effect 25 Mar 1918 aged 29 as she was married on that day at Aldershot Holy Trinity Church Southampton, to Frederick William Warden Pickance (34 year old Captain in the Royal Engineers). Fred's father was listed as Colonel, Madras Staff Corps, and Alice's, a Gentleman.
Post War
Death Notice reports her as a widow (Frederick had died in Jun 1942), aged 75, living at 11a The Grange, Wimbledon, Surrey, having died on 23 Aug 1964.
Probate was granted to William Edwin Reginald Chamberlain, civil servant, on 11 November for a value of £7,999. No record of children found in UK.
