Pre War
Married 26 Apr 1941 to Peggy Cross. Peggy died 20 Jan 2005 aged 82 at Coogee, Western Australia.
War Service
Enlisted in the CMF (Militia) on 17 Apr 1942 at Claremont. On 1 May 1942 he was posted to the 8th Australian Supply Company AASC. On 7 Jul 1942 John was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital at Hollywood, and was released to the 8th Australian Supply Company on 13 Aug 1942. John was granted leave periods (with pay) from 11 Aug 1942 until 14 Sep 1942 ; from 12 Oct - 15 Oct 1942, and from 1 - 7 Jan 1943. In between, on 30 Oct 1942 John had enlisted in the 2nd AIF with a change of regimental number.
On 22 Feb 1944 John entrained for Victoria, arriving there on 26 Feb 1943. Sent to join the 63rd Australian Supply Depot Platoon at Watsonia camp, in Victoria, from 5 June to 15 July 1944 he was detached to the 120th Australian General Transport Company, then in Queensland. John required medical attention from the 77th Australian Camp Hospitalat Tenterfield, NSW between 4th and 8th August 1944.
On 4 Oct 1944, along with his unit he embarked on MS Gorgon in Brisbane for Aitape on the north coast of Papua, New Guinea, arriving there and disembarking on 10 Oct 1944. On 22 Nov 1944 he was admitted to the 30th USA Evacuation Hospital (diagnosis unknown). Released back to his unit on 28 Nov 1944, he remained with them until 6 Aug 1945 when he was admitted to the 2/11th Australian General Hospital suffering with dyspepsia. He rejoined his unit again on 17 Aug 1945. On 14 Nov 1945 he was transferred to the 6th Division Reception Camp as a first step towards his discharge, and he arrived back in Australia on 23 Nov 1945.
John arrived in Perth on 1 Dec 1945 and was discharged on 3 Dec 1945 at Karrakatta.
