On 3 Jun 1944 Neil enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, mustered as a General hand TG V and was then sent to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF to undertake basic Recruit Drill training. On 13 Jul 1944 Neil was posted to No. 2 Personnel Depot RAAF at Bradfield Park in Sydney. Then on 29 Aug 1944 he was transferred to No. 1 Reserve Personnel Pool RAAF in Townsville. Neil was transferred to the unit's Discharge Section on 19 Feb 1946 to prepare for discharge which took place on 5 Mar 1946, following 21 day's Leave Without Pay from 5 - 25 Feb 1946.
Post War
During 1947, Neil married Joan Lucien Dowell nee Collins. According to Electoral Roll entries the couple lived at River Road, Kelmscott in 1954 with Neil working as a carrier. In 1958 they lived on Albany highway in Kelmscott and Neil continued to work as a carrier. From 1968 to 1980 he was listed as being at 28 Wyong road, Bentley as a driver.
