War Service
On 30 Oct 1942 Clarence enlisted as a General Hand in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre in Perth. The following day he was posted to the No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF to undertake basic drill training. Training completed he was then posted to No. 4 Services Flying Training School RAAF at Geraldton on 26 Nov 1942. His next posting was on 8 Jan 1943 to No. 74 Operational Base Unit RAAF at Pearce airbase, remaining with them until 16 Aug 1943 when he was transferred to No. 9 Elementary Flying Training School RAAF at Cunderdin.

His brother Stanley Gordon Curtis was to lose his life in Rabaul on 2 Feb 1942 as a member of the 2/1st Independent Company; brother Harry Alfred Curtis served with the 2/32nd Battalion; brother Kenneth Roy Curtis with the RAN, and his sister Mona Curtis served with the RAAF.
