Rose had passed six subjects in the Junior Certificate, and three in the Leaving Certificate. She had then worked as a general domestic for Mrs Mitchell in Mundijong for two years, and for Mrs Simpson in Byford for one year prior to enrollment.

War Service

On 3 Jan 1942 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre Rose enrolled as an Aircraftwoman in the RAAF, mustered as a Mess Steward. She was sent to the WAAAF Training Section of No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Pearce for basic drill training which started the same day.
