Pre War
At enlistment he had experience with diesel engineering and operating a cinematograph. He had married Dorothy Foxlove on 22 Nov 1929, and they had a daughter born 1 Apr 1930 and a son born 11 Jan 1936.
War Service
Emlyn enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 8 Aug 1942, mustered as a General hand. He was sent the same da\y to the No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Pearce to undertake No. P177 Recruits Drill Course (9 - 30 Aug 1942). He was then posted on 7 Sep 1942 to No. 4 Stores Depot RAAF at Maylands. His next posting was on 15 Oct 1942 to the No. 2 Mobile Works Squadron RAAF where he spent most of his time in uniform. While with them Emlyne was appointed Leading Aircraftman from 1 Mar 1943, reverted to Aircraftman on 24 Sep 1943 when he remusterd as a Fitter General, and was again appointed Leading Aircraftman on 1 Jan 1944. He had remustered as a Plant Operator on 6 Nov 1943. On 22 Feb 1944 Emlyn transferred to the No. 1 Reserve Personnel Pool RAAF for reassignment to work betted suited to his helath.
