Found to have an  "irritable heart" he was sent back to Australia from Suez on 21 Jan 1917 for a "change".

He was granted a medical discharge at 5th Military District on 3 Apr 1917.

Post War

During 1920 in Fremantle, Sidney married Alice Evelyn Walter. Alice died on 19 Jan 1963 aged 62, in Melville.

Probable children Sydney John (1920 - 8 Sep 1997); Rosemary A (1923 - ); Walter (1926 - 6 May 2007) a plasterer; Derrick George (1928 - 30 Jan 1990).
