War Service
Enlisted in Geraldton. On arrival in Perth was assigned to the 28th Battalion and posted to B Company. Following training he embarked with them for Egypt. On arrival in Egypt they undertook training to prepare for service on the Gallipoli Peninsular. On 4 Sep 1915, while the rest of the battalion embarked for Gallipoli, Reuben was left behind in Mustapha as a Baggage Guard. On 22 Oct 1915 he was admitted to the Reception Hospital in Mustapha with Orchitis. Two days later he was transferred to the 17th General Hospital in Alexandria, and on 6 Nov 1915 transferred to the Lady Howard De Walden's Convalescent Home in Alexandria before being transferred to the 2nd Division's Base in Ghezireh on 13 Dec 1915.
Admitted to the 3rd Australian General Hospital in Abbassia on 19 Apr 1916 with Rectal Stricture, on 22 Apr 1916 he was transferred to the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital in Heliopolis. Discharged on 10 Jun and transferred to Suez to embark for Australia.
Arriving back in Western Australia he entered the 8th Australian General Hospital in Fremantle on 11 Jul 1916 and was released on 14 Aug 1916. Reuben was discharged medically unfit at 5th Military District on 18 Aug 1916.
Post War
On his return in 1916 Reuben married Selina Lilly Scrivener. On 19 Nov 1917 a son David G. was born. Edith E. was born in 1920 after her father's death.

NAUGHTON.-On July 25, 1920, at the No. 8 Australian General Hospital Fremantle, Reuben Douglas returned soldier, late of the 28th Battalion dearly beloved husband of Selina Lily Naughton (nee Scrivener) of Glen Forrest, formerly of Kanowna and Wongan Hills. Aged 26 years.[1]
NAUGHTON (nee Scrivener).-On August 31,at King street, Gosnells, to Mrs. Naughton,widow of, the late R D. Naughton - a daughter. Both well.[2]
Military records indicate that death was caused by (1) Rectal Stricture (2) Cachexia and Heart Failure. When Reuben was later unable to work, he was granted a fortnightly pension of 30/- ($3), his wife 15/- ($1.50), and his son 10/- ($1).
