Pre War

War Service

Mary married WX8380 LCpl Roy Sydney Watkins on 19 Dec 1942, i.e. prior to enlisting in the Australian Army Medical Women's Service in Perth on 17 Feb 1943. On 21 Feb 1943 she was detached to the 6th AWS Training Company, and on completion of basic training on 15 Mar 1943 she was posted to the 118th Australian General Hospital. On 14 May 1943 she was paid an adult wage having turned 21 years of age. On 21 June she was admitted to the hospital as a patient, returning to duty on 20 Jul 1943. Mary was charged with having been AWOL from midnight 22/23rd November to 3:00pm on 25 November. Her penalty was the loss of three days pay and a fine of £5 ($10).


From 4 - 9 Feb 1944 Mary was admitted as a patient of the hospital, and again between 4 and 27 May 1944. She was also granted Leave without Pay from 18 Jul until 4 Aug 1944 after which she reported to 31st AWAS Barrack for discharge which was granted on 16 Sep 1944 at Claremont.

Notes

Mary married Roy Sydney Watkins (1916 - 2014) during 1942 in Perth, i.e. before her enlistment. Roy died on 24 Feb 2014 at Joondalup aged 97.
