Early Life

Jessie Janet Thatcher (nee Pryor) was born on 8 September 1886 in Lewes Sussex England.

Marriage

Jessie married Ernest Thomas Thatcher on 2 February in 1913 at Emmanuel Church Maida Hill Westminster, England. The couple came to Western Australia on board the steam ship "Orama", leaving England on 14 February 1913 arriving on 18 March 1913. Ernest moved to Australia for health reasons at the age of 21, lived in Forbes NSW then to South Australia. Jessie mother lived in Lewes, Sussex and her father was a Butcher.

Children

The couple had six children; Frederick Mark Thatcher, Ann Janet Thatcher (twins), Alice P Thatcher, Thomas Pryor Thatcher, James Pryor Thatcher and Corisande P. Thatcher.

Electoral Rolls

According to the electoral roll in 1925 and 1953 she lived at "The Old Homestead" Byford (also known as Wattles Creek Farm Byford), and in 1950 and 1954 she lived at Fourth Road Armadale. Ernest's listed occupation on electoral rolls was a Dairyman. Prior to moving to the Old Homestead, (which was bought for £1500 for 150 acres) they lived near Fremantle Hospital where Ernest had a wood yard.

Community Involvement

Served as a Secretary of the Byford P & C and the CWA Associations. She was also involved with the Women's Auxiliary Armadale/Kelmscott Memorial Hospital. Jessie was 1st President of Byford Primary School P & C. she belonged to the CWA. At the Anglican Church, Jessie was on the Mother's Union Guild.

Death

Jessie died at the age of 86 on 25 February 1973.
