War Service

During the journey to England Ernest disembarked from SS Port Darwin in Suez on 7 Jun 1918 and was attached to a base unit while waiting for transport to England. Sent by train to Alexandria, he again boarded the SS Port Darwin on 3 Jul 1918 this time for England, but on 10 Jul 1918 he became ill and was off loaded from the Port Darwin to hospital in Faenza on Italy's East coast. He continued to England after he had recovered, but his records do not tell us the ship's name, disembarking at Southampton on 20 Aug 1918.

When he arrived in England he was posted to the 5th Training Battalion at Rollestone on 21 Aug 1918. His records don't show any service beyond the Training Battalion. Ernest was discharged by the 5th Military District on 10 Dec 1919.

Post War

1921 married Annie Clements in Perth.

Electoral Roll entries - 1925 - 1954 at 327 Rokeby road, Subiaco; shopkeeper (Annie listed at either 323a or 323 so shop and separate house?)
