Pre War

Prior to the war Ernest had been the CQMS of the 28th Australian Infantry Battalion (The Swan Regiment) On 8 Dec 1929, Ernest married Irene Mary Drysdale (1905 - 1991) in Midland Junction. Irene died on 22 Mar 1991 in Mt Lawley. They had three children.

War Service

Enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Armadale on 16 Jul 1942. He was allocated to the [[12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion with his initial Army number being W68141, which was changed on 7 Feb 1944 to W93459. On 2 Jun 1944 Ernest was discharged from the VDC with his services being no longer required.


Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 at 31 Ord street, West Perth, sawyer; 1954 - 1963 at 50 McCourt street, Leederville, benchman; 1968 - 1972 at 24 Coldstream street, Leederville, business manager; 1977 - 1980 at 47 Hamer avenue, Wembley Downs, retired.

Notes

Many of the enlistees from Gleneagles Forestry Settlement gave the baker in Armadale Blackburn's shop as their address as Blackburns delivered bread to Gleneagles.
