Pre War

Clarence was initially employed by the Western Australian Government Railways as a Casual Goods Porter at Fremantle from 2 Nov 1925 until 22 May 1926. Two days later he was again employed as a Goods porter. On 9 Nov 1927 he was made a Shunter until 11 Mar 1929 when he again was a Goods Porter. Once again a Shunter on 17 Dec 1929 he was posted from Fremantle to Bunbury on 5 Aug 1931. There, on 24 Sep 1933 he was again employed as a Porter for a week before returning to Shunter duties. On 24 Oct 1934 he was promoted to Head Shunter in the Bunbury Yards. On 3 Jan 1935 he was posted to Narrogin as Head Shunter, and then on 22 Aug 1935 to Merredin. Here on 17 Dec 1935 he was transferred to Guard duties, and on 30 Jul 1938 took up those duties in Armadale. His enlistment papers indicate that he had ben a member of the Naval Reserve, and had a kidney removed in 1928.

Clarence had married Catherine May Jones (1906 - 1965) in Fremantle during 1929. Catherine died on 27 Aug 1965 in Armadale.

War Service

On 22 Mar 1942 Clarence enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Armadale and was allotted to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion. On 24 May 1943 he was appointed Lance Corporal, an don 1 May 1945 along with the rest of his unit he was paled in Reserve.


Post War

Clarence remained based on Armadale as a Guard until his retirement on 20 Oct 1969.
