Post War Details



Pre War

Prior to enlistment he had 5 years experience with stone quarry crushing plant, and 3 years as a Diesel plant operator. He had attended Perth Boy's School to 8th Standard, and was unemployed at the time of his enlistment. Electoral Roll entries: 1937 at 25 Hanbury street, Kalgoorlie, labourer; 1943 at William street, Armadale, labourer. On 28 Feb 1942 Allan married Irene Ruth Woosey in Victoria Park. They had one child, a daughter who was born on 30 Dec 1943.

War Service

Allan enlisted in the RAAF on 22 Oct 1940 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, and was posted to No. 1 Recruit Depot RAAF the same day to undertake No. 310 Recruit Drill course. On 24 Nov 1940 he was posted to No. 1 School of Technical Training RAAF to participate in the No. 11 Group II Fitters course. Having completed this step of his training he was posted on 26 Jan 1941 to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF, and on completion of the No. 55 TFM Course, he was posted to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF on 27 Apr 1941. Allan was appointed Leading Aircraftman Flight Mechanic on 2 Oct 1941, and reposted on 5 Jan 1942 to No. 2 Bombing & Gunnery School RAAF. On 28 Feb 1942 Allan married Irene Ruth Woosey in St Peters Church Victoria Park.


Allan's next posting was a return to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF from 26 May 1942 to 3 Aug 1942 during which time, on 30 Jul 1942, he was remustered as a Fitter Trade Group II, necessitating his reversion in rank to Aircraftman. On 3 Aug 1942 he returned to No. 2 Bombing & Gunnery School RAAF, where he was appointed Leading Aircraftman on 2 Nov 1942. From 31 May until 9 Jun 1943 Allan was detached to RAAF Wing RAH(NE). He was next posted to No. 3 Air Observers School RAAF on 9 Dec 1943, and following the completion of his training he was posted to No. 4 Embarkation Depot RAAF on 17 Apr 1944.


On 27 Apr 1944 he was transferred to No. 55 Operational Base Unit RAAF located at Gorrie in the Northern Territory. On 16 May 1944 his posting changed to No. 7 Repair & Salvage Unit RAAF, and then on 1 Dec 1944 he was transferred to No. 2 Reserve Personnel Pool RAAF. He was posted to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF on 9 Dec 1944 where he was discharged on 29 Dec 1944 in order to resume his civil occupation..

Post War

Discharge was to allow him to commence work with White Rock Quarries at Gosnells. Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1954 at 25 Collins street, South Perth, plant attendant; 1958 at 23 Bunbury street, Collie, fitter;
