Brief History

In July 1944 22nd Australian Field Company which was at the RAE Training Centre at Kapooka in New South Wales was split to also form the 2nd Port Construction Company, giving a capacity to now operate in two separate locations. They moved to Meadowbank for specialist training and then moved to Toorbul Point in Queensland during October 1944. With the 9th Australian Infantry Division given the task of capturing the area around Brunei Bay to allow it to be used as a base by the British Fleet, 2nd Port Construction Company moved to Morotai in April 1945 and landed at Labuan Island in June. At the end of the war they were reconstructing the port to support the continued operations of the 9th Division.
