Mary married WX8380 LCpl Roy Sydney Watkins on 19 Dec 1942, i.e. prior to enlisting in the Australian Army Medical Women's Service in Perth on 17 Feb 1943. On 21 Feb 1943 she was detached to the [[6th AWS Training Company]], and on completion of basic training on 15 Mar 1943 she was posted to the [[118th Australian General Hospital]]. On 14 May 1943 she was paid an adult wage having turned 21 years of age. On 21 June she was admitted to the hospital as a patient, returning to duty on 20 Jul 1943.
