On 15 Aug 1941 Harold married Katherine Muriel Schultze (1920 - 2006) in Norseman. Catherine died 15 Feb 2006 in Kalgoorlie. They had 2 children.
War Service
Harold enlisted in the RAAF at the No. 4 RAAF Recruit Centre on 8 Jul 1942 aged 33. He was initially mustered as a Trainee group V. Following completion of Recruit Drill Course No 172 he was posted to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF in Perth to undertake No 90 Trainee Group Fitter II Course. On 23 Sep 1942 he took the next step in his training by being posted on 23 Sep 1942 to No. 1 Armament School RAAF at Hamilton, Victoria, graduating from No. 33 Armourer's Course on 30 Oct 1942 as an Armourer group II and then No 40 Fitter Armourer Course. On 5 Dec 1942 he was remustered as a Fitter Armourer group I
On 21 Dec 1942 Harold was posted to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF in Geraldton, where on 5 Mar 1943 he was promoted Leading aircraftman, and remaining with them until he was posted to No. 73 Operational Base Unit RAAF on 24 Aug 1943. His posting changed again on 2 Jul 1944 when he joined No. 25 (City of Perth) Squadron RAAF, remaining with them until 16 Dec 1944 when he was transferred to the No. 1 Personnel Depot RAAF
