Pre War
War Service
John was mobilised on 10 Jan 1942 and was posted to the Western Command Troops Supply Column as a Driver. On 27 Jan 1942 he was called up for full time service, and on 17 May 1942 he was transferred to the 13th Australian Infantry Brigade Group's 4th Battalion. John transferred to the 2nd AIF on 12 Jul 1942 and was allotted to the 24th Australian Company AASC.
On 13 Feb 1943 John entrained for Adelaide, arriving there on 20 Feb 1943. On 1 Mar 1943 he entrained in Adelaide for the Northern Territory, arriving there on 10 Mar 1943. While in the Northern Territory, on 17 Aug 1944 he was transferred to the 250th Australian Supply Depot Platoon. On 21 Nov 1944 the unit embarked in Darwin aboard USAT Evangaline for Jacquinot Bay on the south coast of New Britain where they disembarked on 26 Nov 1944. On 10 Sep 1945 John was embarked in Jacquinot Bay aboard HMT Taroona for Brisbane where he disembarked on 15 Sep 1945.
Transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot he was discharged on 30 Jan 1946.
Post War
During 1953 John married Gwendoline Olive Chester.
