War Service
Herbert enlisted at the Recruit Reception Depot in Claremont on 21 Oct 1940 and taken on as a member of Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot staff until 2 Mar 1943 when he was transferred to D Sub Store, HQ Australian Kit Store's 6th Section. On 1 Jul 1943 he was declared to be proficiency and received a pay increase.
On 26 Jun 1944 he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital and they transferred him to the 118th Australian General Hospital at Northam on 7 Jul 1944 where he was diagnosed as having a Gastric Ulcer, and as such he was recommended for discharge when released from hospital. On 18 Sep 1944 he was released from hospital and transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot's Discharge Section. On 22 Oct 1944 Herbert was discharged.
