Brief History

Early on the Kit Store function was handled at unit level. When troops arrived home from the Middle East they also included experienced staff from the AIF (ME) Kit Store that were used to create Kit Stores in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Western Australia. When raised in WA during September 1942 the unit became known as D Sub Store, HQ Australian Kit Store. 6, 9 and 11 Sections serviced the 4th Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, and 3rd Australian Corps respectively.

14 Section arrived with the 3rd Motorised Brigade Group in November and moved to Northam to service the 1st Armoured Division before moving to Ipswich in Queensland in November 1943. 6 Section was absorbed in September 1944 and the rest of the unit appears to have continued operations at a reduced scale until war's end.
