Pre War

On 16 Sep 1939 Edward married Bessie Edna Saw (1917 - 9 Oct 2010).

War Service

On 30 Jan 1942 Ted enlisted in the CMF general reinforcements at Claremont, and he was called up for full time service on 23 Jun 1942. On 1 Jul 1942 he was sent to Northam Camp for training and on 6 July he was allocated to the 5th Military District Engineer Training Depot. He was admitted to the 38th Australian Camp Hospital from 6 - 14 Aug 1942, and then soon after his return to training he was charged with failing to appear at a place of parade on 17 Sep 1942 for which he was fined 10/- ($1).

On 5 Dec 1942 a Court of Inquiry was held into an accident involving Ted on 7 Nov 1942, with the finding being an accident not due to any negligence. However, Ted was admitted to the York District Hospital as a result of a Fractured leg, and was transferred to the 118th Australian General Hospital on 18 Nov 1942, released to Faversham Convalescent Home (during the war, it was used as a hospital and convalescent home for servicemen) on 23 Jan 1943 before being readmitted to the 118th Australian General Hospital from 18 March until 1 Jun 1943 when he was transferred this time to the 109th Australian Convalescent Depot before again returning to the 118th Australian General Hospital on 29 Jul 1943 before being released to the 2nd RAE Training Centre on 13 Aug 1943. On 19 Aug 1943 he was medically reclassified as Ba as a result of a compound fracture to his leg.

On 26 Aug 1943 he was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for re-assignment, and on 21 Sep 1943 he was sent to the 4th Motor Transport Training Depot to participate in a Driver/Mechanic course which he qualified at and then was transferred on 27 Dec 1943 to the 2nd AASC Training Centre until 3 Jan 1944 when he returned to the 4th Motor Transport Training Depot. It was decided that Ted had qualified for Proficiency Pay, backdated to Jul 1943.

On 5 May 1944 Ted was transferred to 66th DCRE (Works) now with a medical restriction of no marching (sure to have been a disappointment). On 5 Nov 1945 Ted was transferred to the 3rd CRE (Works), and then on 7 Dec 1945 to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge that day.
