Pre War
Albert had served in the British Household Brigade of Guards (2040 Trooper) and the Royal Flying Corps during 1916 - 1919. Twenty nine year old Albert arrived in Fremantle aboard the SS Bendigo on 31 Dec 1927 from London with his 27 year old wife Lilian, and 3 year old son Alan.
Electoral Roll entries: 1936 - 1937 with Lillian at State road, Byford, labourer; 1943 alone at 31 Ord street, West Perth, clerk.
War Service
Albert was first enlisted into the CMF on 19 Dec 1940 with army number W27505 and after briefly serving in the 10th Australian Garrison Battalion from 19 Dec 1940 until 28 Jan 1941, he was posted to 5th Australian Garrison Battalion. On 14 Jul 1941 he was transferred to the Western Command HQ Band, and from there he was discharged on 6 Nov 1941 as medically unfit (stomach ulcer).
Albert re-enlisted on 20 Mar 1942, this time part time in the Voluntary Defence Corp, and was posted to the 1st (Perth) VDC Battalion. Albert was then discharged from this unit in order to join the RAAF on 2 Oct 1942 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, mustered as a Service Policeman IV.
On 18 Oct 1942 Albert was posted to the RAAF Service Police Unit at East Malvern in Victoria to undergo training (No. 50 Service Police Course) prior to being posted on 18 Jan 1943 to RAAF HQ Laverton. He had been promoted acting Corporal on 9 Jan 1943 having completed his training. On 5 Apr 1943 Albert was posted to RAAF Service Police Unit (WA) as a leading Aircraftman before being posted on 24 Nov 1943 to the RAAF Service Police Unit (Vic). Albert was again promoted Temporary Corporal on 1 Dec 1943. On 15 Jun 1944 his posting changed to RAAF HQ Southern Area, before returning to the SPU (Victoria Section) on 28 Jul 1944. Albert was hospitalised briefly in No. 6 RAAF Hospital from 17 Nov until 9 Dec 1944. He returned to Sedervice Police Unit (Vic) until 14 Feb 1946 when he was sent to No. 1 Personnel Depot RAAF to prepare for discharge which then took place on 27 Feb 1946 with Albert taking 38 days pay in lieu of outstanding leave.

Electoral Roll entries: 1977 - 1980 at 16 Munja way, Nollamara, retired, with Freda Newton.
Notes
Albert's son Alan William Walmsley enlisted in the CMF, the VDC and then the RAAF, where he was a Temporary Warrant Officer in Canberra at time of discharge on 26 Feb 1946.
