Pre War

On 24 Jun 1941 Arthur married Audrey May Johnson (1920 - 2010). Electoral Roll entry: 1943 at 137 Townshend road, Subiaco, clerk

War Service

Originally mobilised into the CMF (W79327) on 18 Jun 1942, he was called up for full time duty on 28 Jul 1942. On 5 Aug 1942 he was sent to the 13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion at Northam Camp to begin training, and on 28 Dec 1942 he was transferred to the 14th Australian Infantry Specialist Group for specialist training until 26 Jan 1943. On 13 Feb 1943 Arthur was transferred to the 4th Australian Signals Training Unit. On 29 Jun 1943 Arthur was charged with having been AWOL from 12:30pm on 26 June until 6:45am on 28 Jun 1943. He was fined 60/- ($6) and forfeited 2 days pay. Training now complete, he was posted to the 109th Australian Light Anti Aircraft Regiment Signals Section on 16 Jul 1943.


On 23 Sep 1943 Arthur enlisted in the 2nd AIF with a new Army Number - WX40692 and on 27 Sep 1943 the units title was changed to 102nd Australian Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment (HE) where on 22 Jan 1944 he was graded a TGII Linesman. On 23 Jun 1944 Arthur was admitted to the 118th Australian General Hospital with Lumbo-sacral Sacroiliitis Periarthritis. Discharged on 28 July he returned to his unit on 1 Aug 1944. Artur was granted several periods of LWOP from 17 Oct 1944 until 26 Aug 1945 when he was processed for discharge by the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot with discharge occurring on 31 Aug 1945.
