Brief History
In mid 1`940 the 5th Military District Signals Training Unit was at Northam. In May 1942 it was renamed WA Line of Communications Area Signals Training Depot. Although signals training was concentrated at Bonegilla in Victoria in August, this unit was retained due to the isolation of WA. In November 1942 it was reorganised and renamed 4th Australian Signals Training Unit, with six sections. The first four sections provided sequential one month training for recruit, elementary, trades and collective training levels. Sections 5 and 6 provided training for Regimental signallers.
With reduced troop numbers in Western Australia, the unit was disbanded at Northam in February 1944.
