Ted's RAAF records list a posting to No 5 Wing - 18 Squadron i.e. No. 18 (Netherlands East Indies) Squadron RAAF commencing 3 Jul 1943, and a classification as 'Cadet" on the same date. It also recorded that his enrollment was terminated on 22 Dec 1943 with him having reached 18 years of age.
He enlisted in the RAAF as a Trainee Technician TG V, on 29 Jan 1944 at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, mustered as a Trainee Technician, and was sent to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Busselton to undertake No. 282 Recruit Drill Training Course. On 31 Mar 1944 he was transferred to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF in Perth to undertake the No. 385 Trainee Fitter Course. On 8 Jul 1944 he was transferred to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF to complete the No 497 Trainee Flight Mechanis's course, at the completion of which he was remustered as a Flight Mechanic TG II on 15 Oct 1944.
On 27 Oct 1944 Ted was posted to No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF at Cunderdin in Western Australia. He was transferred on 11 Feb 1945 to No. 7 Operational Training Unit RAAF. While with them he was appointed Leading Aircraftman. He then remained with them until he was transferred to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF on 13 Feb 1946 on prepare for his discharge which occurred on 25 Feb 1946.
