Pre War

In 1912 he married Christine Alice Munro (1890 - 16 Jul 1962); Children were Myrtle Gwendoline Cloutt (1913–1954); John Walter Cloutt (1915–1994); Walter Alfred William Cloutt (1916–1934); Colin Charles Cloutt (1919–1999). At the time of enlistment in 1917 he was residing at 176 York street, Subiaco.

WW1 Service

Alfred saw service during WW1 as a Private in the 3rd Motor Transport Company. Enlisting on 3 Sep 1917, he embarked in Fremantle on HMAT Port Darwin, arriving in Southampton on 16 Jul 1917. He proceeded to France on 6 Nov 1918 and was posted to the 1st Motor Transport Company, remaining with them until he transferred to the 3rd Motor Transport Company on 22 May 1919. Alfred sailed for home on 12 Jul 1919 aboard HMT City of Exeter and disembarked 16 Aug 1919 in Fremantle. He was discharged on 16 Sep 1919.
