In June he received another 6 days LWOP, after which he was detached on 29 June to Arthurs Battery until 5 Aug 1942. Soon after he returned to his unit, 4 Sep 1942, he was prompted Acting Corporal, this rank being confirmed on New Year's Day 1943.

On 14 May 1943 Jim was admitted to the 37th Australian Camp Hospital, returning to his unit on 19 May 1943. Notes

At death his age is given as 60, implying that he was born in 1899, not 1902 as his Army records show.
