War Service

Enlisted a fortnight after his 18th birthday at No. 4 Recruiting Centre in Perth, mustered as a Junior Technical with rank of Aircraftsman level 1. On 4 Apr 1943 he was posted to No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF for initial trade skills, passing his Trainee Fitter's Course on 18 Jun 1943. On 9 Jul 1943 he had moved to No.1 Engineering School at Ascot Vale in Victoria where he completed the No. 380 Fitter/Mechanics Course between 26 Jul and 16 Oct 1943. On graduation his mustering was changed to AC1 Flight Mechanic. His posting changed again on 25 Oct 1943 to No. 6 Service Flying Training School. With his initial training completed, Kevin was sent to the No. 4 Personnel Depot in Springbank near Ballarat, Victoria on 22 Dec 1943 to await an operational posting.


On 18 Jan 1945 Kevin was posted to No. 87 Squadron RAAF at Coomalie Creek airfield in the Northern Territory. The squadron operated de Havilland Mosquito photo reconnaissance aircraft. One of their aircraft was the last one based on mainland Australia to participate in an operational mission during the war. While in the Northern Territory, David was promoted to Leading Aircraftsman on 16 Mar 1945. In October 1945 the squadron relocated to Parkes in New South Wales. Kevin transferred back to No.5 Personnel Depot at Pearce on 8 Feb 1946 and was discharged on 21 Feb 1946.

Post War

During 1948 Kevin married Dora Ada Wallace. Dora died on 18 Feb 2012 aged 87 in Rossmoyne. Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1954 at Albany road, Kelmscott, shop assistant; 1958 - 1972 at 9 Scruth street, Kelmscott, shop assistant; 1977 - 1980 at 33 Beaconsfield street, St James, clerk
